WATTS BAR LAKE

WATTS BAR LAKE VIEW.JPG

Watts Bar Lake is located about midway between Chattanooga and Knoxville. Watts Bar Lake has been created by Watts Bar Dam located at the southeast end of the lake. Watts Bar Lake is navigable and maintained by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Watts Bar Lake and the Tennessee River provide an abundant and reliable source of economical electric power for the Tennessee Valley. Watts Bar Lake begins as the Tennessee River below Fort Loudon Dam in Lenoir City, Tennessee and stretches over 72 miles  to Watts Bar Dam near Spring City, Tennessee. The Clinch River connects to the main channel of the lake near Southwest Point in Kingston, Tennessee. The widening of the Clinch by the lake makes that river navigable all the way up to Melton Hill Dam which is equipped with a navigation lock allowing navigation upstream through Oak Ridge and Clinton. The partially navigable Emory River connects with the Clinch near the TVA's Kingston Steam Plant just upriver from the joining with the Tennessee River. Including the Clinch and Emory arms, Watts Bar has over 722 miles of shoreline and over 39,000 acres of water surface. Minor tributaries include Poplar Creek, Caney Creek, and White's Creek. The lake contains several large islands, most notably Thief Neck Island, Long Island, and Sand Island.

Watts Bar Lake supports  sport fishing ratings for crappie, black crappie, largemouth bass, and spotted bass are at or near the top in the TVA system The area also provides many opportunities for birdwatching, with an extremely large population of great blue herons, over 120 nesting pairs of osprey, and a few bald eagles living on or near the lake.

East Tennessee has been blessed with Watts Bar Lake with its variety of lots, land and homes that will meet your fondest dreams. Due to the great size of Watts Bar Lake and the fact that we have so many lakes in East Tennessee, Watts Bar Lake doesn't get over-crowded even on the busiest holiday weekends. We have great marina’s and waterfront restaurants which are so important, but often difficult to find on other waterways.

You will fall in love with Watts Bar Lake on your first visit. Watts Bar Lake is blessed with a topography that has created miles of beautiful shoreline and hundreds of secluded coves where you can enjoy the lake in seclusion that just isn’t available in many places.
